I am sure we can all relate to a similar story.
I was set on having a juicy beef burger. I bought the rolls, fried the chips and even made the Garlic Mayo.
Breathe… and then out of nowhere a thought arose. PING!
What about a bean burger? I have beans. Yes!
Ingredients:
Makes 10 Burgers
1can Bake
Beans in tomato sauce (400g)
1can Lentils in Smokey flavoured Brine (410g)
½C Breadcrumbs
2 Spring
Onions / ½ Onion
½ Red
Pepper
½C Fresh
Coriander Leaves
1t Whole
Cumin
½t Crushed
Black Pepper
1t Smoked
Paprika
½t Salt
1. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius.
2. Coat a baking sheet pan with a little oil and set
it aside.
3. Chop the Onions and Red Peppers.
4. Crush the Whole Cumin in a pestle & mortar.
5. Add the cans of Bake Beans and Lentil including the brine into a bowl and squash it roughly with fork.
6. Add all the other ingredients and mix together well.
7. Coat your hands with a little Oil.
8. Place 2 tablespoons of the bean mixture into the
palm of your hands and shape into a round burger +/- 2 cm in height.
9. Place them on the baking sheet pan and refrigerate
them for 15 minutes to firm them.
10. Brush the top of the burger with a little oil,
this prevents the beans from drying out.
Tip:
The burgers will appear soft. Do not Stress. Wait for a brown crust to form at
the bottom and then flip them over gently onto the other. Allow them to cool
for 5 – 10 minutes before serving. This allows the beans to firm up.
12. Alternatively,
you could shallow fry them in a pan on the stove.
Transform your Bean Burger into a Supreme Bean Burger with a big blob of Garlic Mayo.
