Italian Calzones


Also known as Folded Pizzas or Pizza Pockets.

Bake them or fry them. Fill them with whatever ingredients you might fancy.

Calzones are also the perfect way to use all the leftover foods in your fridge.

The sky is definitely the limit!

 

1. Make your own Pizza Dough.

Ingredients:

Makes 12 Calzones

Pizza Dough

Mozarella Cheese

Italian Passata Sauce

Salt

Dried Origanum

Fresh Basil Leaves

Tip: You would need ½ Bottle of Italian Passata Sauce, 500g Mozarella Cheese, a handful of Fresh Basil Leaves.

2. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius.

3. Grate the Mozarella Cheese. 

4. Break the dough into 12 equal balls.

5. Roll it out or press it into small circles.

6. Spoon and spread the Italian Passata Sauce onto the Calzone base evenly.

7. Sprinkle some Salt on top.

8. Layer on Mozzarella cheese, Fresh Basil Leaves and sprinkle with dried Origanum.

9. Fold it over and pinch the edges closed.

Filling suggestions: Cooked Chicken or Beef mince, Salami, chopped vegetables or different types of Cheese.

10. Place the Calzones on a pan and bake them in the oven for 10-15 minutes.

11. Check their bottoms, it should be golden brown.

12. Serve them hot.
